Abbotts Overlook

The finished oil painting on a wooden easel: muted golden hills, a strip of pale water, deep green hillsides, and a bright band of yellow grasses in the foreground, with a small pale structure in the distance.

I was walking the trail by Abbotts Lagoon with my family. I stopped to look around and take in my surroundings, and I was taken with this scene: the muted hills in the distance, the mystery of a white structure far off, the peaceful sound of the wind rustling the grasses at my feet.

Inverness, and the whole Point Reyes area, is such a special place. Sometimes I feel like there is a painting waiting to be painted in every direction.

This was the final painting made during my self-made artist residency.
